Origin: South Australia (McLaren Vale)

Maturity: 2005-2020

G.A.M. represents the first initial of each of the Mitolo children's first names - Gemma, Alex and Marco.

”Aged 18 months in primarily French oak, the 2004 Shiraz G.A.M. is an exceptional example of a precise yet full-flavored, concentrated Shiraz. Its gorgeous perfume of blueberries, blackberries, camphor, licorice, and pain grille is followed by an inky/blue/purple-colored wine offering superb purity, full-bodied richness, and gorgeous depth as well as texture. This fabulous effort is another example of Ben Glaetzer’s brilliant talents. It should drink well for 15 years." -Robert Parker

Vineyard: The grapes come from the Willunga district of McLaren Vale, where the heavy grey loam soils over sandstone, intermixed with black Biscay clay, combined with the maritime climate, contribute to an even ripening period and the development of rich fruit flavours and ripe tannins. Yield is around 2 tonnes per acre.

Winemaking: Each parcel of fruit for G.A.M. is fermented on skins for 10 days in 2 tonne fermentation vessels. The wine is then pressed and undergoes partial barrel fermentation followed by a natural malolactic fermentation before racking.

Aging: 18 months in 70% new French (Allies/Nevers) hogsheads and barriques plus 30% second use American hogsheads and barriques.

Winery Notes: Bright ruby/purple. Lifted anise, nutmeg and dark fruit on the nose with hints of crushed pepper and mixed spice. A dense and multilayered palate that retains freshness, richness and vibrant fruit.

“The G.A.M. shiraz 2004 expresses a more supple and fleshy style of shiraz and despite the 70 per cent new French oak, together with some French coopered American oak, it still shows admirable silky-sweet, ripe opulence backed with some fine, firm tannins. It’s a beauty.” -Ray Jordan ‘The West Australian’
