"Deep
chestnut color. An earty, nutty-bordering-on-woody nose
with sweet roasted malt accents. A rich, frothy entry
leads to an off-dry, full-bodied palate with intense raisiny,
dried fruit compote, roasted nuts, and mild molasses flavors.
Finishes with an earthy mild hops and toasted dark nut bread
fade with a lingering note. A distinctive and delicious doppelbock that has an elegant balance of fruity malt and
earthy, nutty flavors. A claret of a doppelbock!"

"Reddish-brown.
Medium body. Faint malty nose. Medium-bodied. Highly carbonated
with a thick, craggy head. Sweet roasted caramel malt palate
with fruit floral hop backnote. A rich, warming style in the
manner of a fine Bavarian Doppelbock." -Beverage Testing

"Deep mahogany color with ruby highlights; tan foam. The sweet,
concentrated bouquet owns a ripe fruit core that’s wrapped in a
smoky, molasses-like exterior scent that’s remarkably
cocoa-like; one of my five favorite beer aromas, period. In the
mouth the velvety texture supports tastes of chocolate-covered
cherries, marshmallow, whipped cream and roasted nuts. Finishes
with one a harmonious aftertastes." -Wine Enthusiast

Samichlaus
Doppelbock
(VERY RARE)
Style: Doppelbock
Brewery: Castle Eggenberg
(Vorchdorf, Austria)

|
87 Points -Beer Advocate 2006
The
once strongest beer in the world is back! Brewed only once
a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before
bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world.
Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older
vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish.
Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary
with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself.

"Dark brown color. Nutty, dark chocolate covered cherry aromas
follow through to a frothy, dryish medium-full body of tangy
tangerine, and dried peach, honey, and brown sugar flavors.
Finishes with a tangy chocolate, orange peel, and vibrant spicy
and earthy hop fade. Nicely expression of hops through the sweet
malt." -Beverage Testing Institute

"Powerfully sweet and bready aromas follow through on a
moderately full-bodied palate with a sweet malty attack and a
mid-palate that does not quite deliver as much depth as
expected. Finishes with nice burnt notes and well-judged hop
bitters. However, this has a dangerously high drinkability
factor."
